Traveling Tips
Traveling with kids can be numerous things all at the same time - and change very quickly from moment to moment! Fun and frustrating, exhilarating and exhausting, rewarding and patience-testing, among many others. Here are a few traveling tips to make your journey to the campsite an enjoyable one.
Pack a Surprise Toy Box for the Car/Plane Ride
Just when your children are bored or getting fussy, you can pull out a new "surprise" from your secret box! The kids will be excited to see what you have in store and it will help you to get closer to your destination without incident. Be creative and bring things that cater to your children's interests.
Some suggestions of things to include are:
- Small and inexpensive new toys, such as little cars, small dolls, etc.
- Flashcards with learning activities (ABC's, math, etc.)
- Card games to play (such as Old Maid, Go Fish, or a regular card deck)
- Coloring book and crayons (markers - even the washable kind - can be messy)
- Paper and crayons / Stationary and pens (age-appropriate) to write a quick letter or picture to grandparents or friends. Have several envelopes addressed and ready with a stamp and mail them at your next stop.
- Gum (if your child is old enough to chew safely)
- Snacks (fruit snacks, chips, pretzels, fruit, or other
healthy and non-messy treats.) Avoid snacks with too much
sugar as that tends to backfire sometimes. :-)
