Camping With Toddlers
With this age group, safety is the main concern. They are typically very inquisitive, adventurous, and have the most potential for injuries. Setting boundaries and keeping a close eye on them at all times are very important. Some of our suggestions for camping with toddlers are:
-
If they are old enough (such as 2 or 3 years old), give toddlers a job to do, such as assisting with setting up camp, carrying supplies, or finding firewood.
-
Bring a few of their favorite toys to keep them entertained.
-
Make sure to engage them and point out all of the amazing things that nature has to offer.
-
For bedtime, try to stick to a normal routine as much as possible. Try to duplicate as much as possible - bring along a favorite book to read together before bed, their favorite blanket or stuffed animal, and have a cup of milk, etc. Be sure to revel in the unusual and exciting – such as taking the time to look at the stars or enjoy the lightning bugs.
