Camping Etiquette

Camping Etiquette is important while visiting a campsite.  Below you will find a few camping etiquette tips to consider while you are camping with your kids:

  • Whatever you bring, take with you when you leave.

  • Camp in a designated campsite within the campground, unless you have obtained a special backcountry camping permit.

  • Protect water sources from contamination.

  • Be a good neighbor - control your noise level and respect the privacy of others.

  • Be respectful of the natural environment – keep the trees and shrubs alive and growing.

  • When hiking, stay on designated trails. This keeps damage to vegetation and erosion in one place.  Wandering off of designated trails can also be dangerous (i.e. wild animals, getting lost, etc.)

  • Always keep your dog on a leash when appropriate and/or required, try to minimize unwanted barking/noise, and do not leave pets unattended.

  • Avoid borrowing tables from other sites.

  • Respect the quiet hours of the camp site and be sure your children do so as well.

  • Do not use nails on a tree or damage trees in any way.

  • Before leaving the campsite, clean your fire pit for the next camper.

  • Clean your campsite before leaving. Make it as clean as you would want it if you were arriving that day. The rule of thumb is to try and leave the campsite better than it was when you arrived.
